Marvellous’11, the region’s biggest and best family festival will play host to the winners of Yately’s Battle Of The Bands competition. Held between local schools, the competition is being run as part of the Gig On The Green music and comedy festival which raises money for local charities to develop new sporting facilities in the area.
“New to Marvellous’11 is our acoustic stage and we’ll be delighted to offer the winner the chance to perform there. The competition is a great community initiative and we’re pleased to be involved and to showcase local musical talent” Pete Lincoln - Festival Director
“We have a great line up of the best bands from Yateley, Fernhill and Robert Mays schools competing to win the Battle of the Bands on the 2nd July. We’re delighted that Marvellous is joining forces with us to offer the winner of the contest the chance to appear on their acoustic stage and - who knows we may even be watching a major new band of the future,” said Dianne Dunne of the Gig on the Green organising committee.
Marvellous, now in its ninth year, takes place at Wellington Country Park over the weekend of July 22 & 23. The event has the well-deserved reputation as the most family-friendly festival, filled with great music, summer fun and fireworks, and with excellent advance ticket sales looks like being a sell out weekend.
The line up features world-class tributes to Kings Of Leon, T Rex, Fleetwood Mac, Abba, Take That, David Bowie, The Police, Oasis, Michael Jackson and Girls Aloud. Headlining the Friday show will be perennial crowd-pleasers Queen, while Saturday's showstoppers Counterfeit Stones make a welcome return with a brilliantly entertaining set of classic Stones tracks, complete with costumes, wigs and wry humour!
Saturday’s show culminates in a spectacular firework display, while earlier in the day the audience will be treated to a stunning aerobatics from pilot Carolyn Grace and her World War II spitfire.
The Big Kids' Village, now a regular feature, has something for everyone. Here you’ll find Circus Skills Workshops, Drama & Dance Sessions, Arts & Crafts, Face Painting, Mask Making and Balloon Modeling - with many of the activities beng free of charge. With fairground rides, Zorb balls, climbing wall . . . the list goes on!
